The CySA+ is now more important than ever
It’s no secret that there are many IT certification options in the world today. You may be asking, “Which one do I get?” Well, that is of course up to you and what your primary career objectives are. If you are specifically drawn to the cybersecurity world, there is one cert you should consider very seriously: The Cyber Security Analyst certification, also known as the CySA+.
The CySA+ is a certification exam that came out earlier this year, and it covers the following topics:
- Configuring and using threat detection tools
- Performing data analysis and interpreting the findings in a meaningful way
- Understanding the cyber threats to any kind of business or organization
- Protecting systems and applications
While there are no established prerequisites for the CySA+ exam, it is highly recommended that you at least have the CompTIA Network+ or the CompTIA Security+ certification, and 3-4 of years of cyber security experience (the industry in which you gain the experience does not really matter).
Unlike some other IT certifications, the CySA+ is highly recognized. For example, the Department of Defense (DoD) has now included the CySA+ in its Directive 8570.01-M, which mandates that technicians and managers working for the DoD meet certain baseline requirements. Obtaining the CySA+ helps you meet these requirements.
It is important to note that the CySA is ANSI accredited and is in compliance with the ISO/IEC 17024 standard for IT certification programs. Earning the CSA+ is also a prerequisite of the following certifications:
- Cyber Security Service Provider (CSSP)-Analyst;
- CSSP-Incident Responder;
- CSSP-Infrastructure Support;
- CSSP-Auditor, and Information Assurance Technician Level II.
